Rajasthan Royals have made a very consistent start to this season under their new skipper Riyan Parag's leadership, but the highlight of their successful campaign has been the young 15-year-old batter, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi.
The youngster has been the highlight of the RR batting order not only because Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has amassed 400 runs in this season of the IPL, but also because of the class with which he has been consistently adding runs to his team's tally, especially in the power play.
Former Indian cricketer Cheteshwar Pujara hailed Rajasthan Royals batter Vaibhav Sooryavanshi for his fearless batting approach and the amazing consistency with which he has been adding runs for his team.
It's pure cinema- Cheteshwar Pujara praises Vaibhav Sooryavanshi
After the 16-ball 43 against the Punjab Kings, Cheteshwar Pujara was in awe of the Rajasthan Royals batter Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who has made a reputation for himself as a destructive batter in the powerplay, despite his young age.
Speaking on JioHotstar, the expert batter added that Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is so successful because of his fearless approach in the game and, despite the approach, the amount of consistency he brings along to the top of the order.
"It's pure cinema watching Vaibhav Sooryavanshi bat. The way he approaches every bowler with that fearless mindset is remarkable. He simply watches the ball and backs himself to strike it. What stands out is that even when the opposition knows he's going to attack, they still struggle to contain him. That consistency, combined with his fearless intent in the Powerplay, is what gives his team a decisive edge and sets up games like this," Pujara said.
Pujara praised the clever bowling from Yuzvendra Chahal despite a loss for the Punjab Kings
In a game that largely belonged to the batters, the only man who was stupendous with the ball was Yuzvendra Chahal, the veteran spinner in the Punjab Kings lineup. Until Harpreet Brar paired alongside Yuzi Chahal, they controlled the Royals' innings while also dismissing the likes of Dhruv Jurel, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and skipper Riyan Parag.
While Harpreet was economical, Chahal was a constant addition to the wickets tally. He bowled a spectacular spell of 3/36 in his four overs, while the Royals were chasing a massive 223-run target. Pujara praised Chahal for his cleverness and the way he has excelled in committing to his strategy, making him this effective in T20 cricket.
"Yuzvendra Chahal was exceptional, especially in the way he used his variations. Even after being hit, he had the courage to keep flighting the ball, changing his pace and lines to create opportunities."
"His control over speed, ranging from the mid-70s to the mid-90s, makes it difficult for batters to settle. In T20 cricket, that variation is crucial, and what stood out was his willingness to stick to his plans and attack, which made it a very impactful spell," he said.
Do PBKS need to reinvent their bowling deck to regain winning momentum in the IPL 2026?
After the loss against the Rajasthan Royals, the Punjab Kings' management, alongside Ricky Ponting, would be forced to consider the major loopholes in their bowling attack, which has mostly been excused so far into the season due to the overwhelming performance from the batters.
However, on most occasions, the Kings' bowlers have given away easy 200+ runs on every occasion they have come out to bat. With Lockie Ferguson returning to the side and Marco Jansen being taken for runs, PBKS might consider their second opener, Azmatullah Omarzai, who is known to have a reputation as a seamer.
What they have lacked majorly is a bowler who can restrict the run flow. For Punjab, picking wickets hasn't been a concern; the concern has been the economy at which their bowlers have given away runs, which is something they would need to rectify to return to and further continue their winning streak.
