Team India mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy shared his feelings about returning to the national cricket team after a three-year break. Varun Chakravarthy said that he focused on the process and stayed in the present without overthinking too much about his comeback to the India cricket team.

Varun played a crucial role in India's seven-wicket victory in the first T20I against Bangladesh at the New Madhavrao Scindia Cricket Stadium in Gwalior on Sunday, October 6. The 33-year-old recovered after conceding 15 runs in his first over. He ended with figures of 3/31 from his four overs.

It Was Emotional For Me - Varun Chakravarthy

In conversation with the official broadcaster after the match, Varun Chakravarthy described returning to the Indian team after three years as emotional and compared it to a "rebirth." Varun highlighted the importance of sticking to the process.

"Definitely, after three long years, it was emotional for me. Feels nice to be back in the blues, feels like a rebirth. Yeah just want to stick to the process. That's what I have been following in the IPL. I want to stay in the present so don't want to think or express too much. Definitely after IPL, I played some other tournaments," Varun said.

Varun Chakravarthy Made His T20I Debut For India In 2021

Varun made his T20I debut for India against Sri Lanka in 2021. He took two wickets in three games. Varun was included in India's squad for the 2021 ICC Men's T20 World Cup. The right-arm leg spinner went wicketless in the World Cup. He was dropped from the Indian team after the match against Scotland.

The cricketer took 21 wickets for the Kolkata Knight Riders in 15 matches with an economy rate of 8.04. He continued his form in the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL), where he took 12 wickets in 10 matches for the Dindigul Dragons. The spinner now wants to secure a more consistent place in the Indian team.

Was A Good Preparation For The Series - Varun Chakravarthy

Varun Chakravarthy opened up about playing in various franchise tournaments. Varun also pointed out how quickly players can be written off when not part of the Indian team.

"TNPL was a very high-standard tournament where I worked with Ash (Ashwin) bhai which did wonders. Was a good preparation for the series. I thought it could have gone my way but this is how cricket goes. Thankful to God."

"There have been many (challenges), once you are not in the Indian side, people tend to write you off very easily. You need to stay in the highest level, again and again, you need to keep knocking on the door, thankfully this time it happened, hopefully, I can keep continuing my good work," he added.

Varun returned to the starting XI against Bangladesh after a three-year break and missing 86 matches. The Tamil Nadu-born cricketer was the joint-highest wicket-taker in the bowling attack. He will be next seen in action during the second T20I match, set to be played in Delhi on Wednesday, October 9.
