LSG Qualification Scenario: How Lucknow Super Giants Can Qualify For IPL Playoffs 2024 After DC vs LSG, Match 64

LSG

Delhi Capitals, on Tuesday (May 14), thrashed Lucknow Super Giants by 19 runs to keep their playoffs hopes alive. Set a target of 209 runs, LSG finished their innings on 189 for 9.

Asked to bat first, DC finished their innings on 208 for 7 in the allotted 20 overs. The hosts were off to a disastrous start as in-form Jake Fraser-McGurk was dismissed for a duck in the very first over by Arshad Khan. However, Abishek Porel and Tristan Stubbs scored fine fifties to power DC to a big total in the must-win clash.

In reply, LSG finished their innings on 189 for 9 in 20 overs. At one stage, they were reeling at 44 for 4 and then 71 for 5 before a 20-ball fifty from Nicholas Pooran revived their hopes. The West Indies star, however, departed for 61 runs in the 12th over to leave his team six down for 101.

It looked all over for LSG at that stage but Arshad Khan revived his team's hopes once again by smashing a whirlwind fifty. However, he could not finish the job for his side as LSG fell short by 19 runs to suffer their third loss in a row.

Qualification scenario for LSG after the defeat against DC:

LSG's chance of qualifying for the playoffs is now hanging by a fine thread after the loss against DC. They are currently at the seventh spot in the points table with 12 points from 13 games. The loss means LSG can finish the league stage with a maximum of 14 points.

To qualify for the next stage, LSG will have to win their last game at any cost. Anything apart from a win will knock them out of the tournament. The win, however, won't be enough for a place in the last four as they will have to depend on several other results.

Not only do they need to win the last league game against Mumbai Indians but will also have to improve their net run rate. Kolkata Knight Riders and Rajasthan Royals have already qualified.

Chennai Super Kings, Sunrisers Hyderabad, and Delhi Capitals have 14 points each while Royal Challengers Bengaluru can finish on 14 points as well.

For LSG to qualify, they will need SRH to lose their remaining games with big margins so that they finish on 14 points as well and their net run rate takes a beating. LSG will also need CSK to defeat RCB. In that case, if LSG win their last game, they will be tied on 14 points with SRH and DC. The net run rate will then decide the fourth team for the playoffs.
