Watch: Mix-Up With Reeza Hendricks Lands Matthew Breetzke In Trouble vs India

Matthew Breetzke Run Out

South African batter Matthew Breetzke got out in an unfortunate way during the second T20I of the three-match series against India. The virtual series decider game is taking place at St George’s Park in Gqeberha.

After India posted a total of 180 runs, which was revised to 152 due to DLS, South Africa were off the flying start. Reeza Hendricks and Matthew Breetzke played some magnificent shots upfront and put Indian bowlers under immense pressure.

The duo added 41 runs for the opening partnership inside three overs before a mixup saw Matthew Breetzke back in the hut. During the fifth ball of the third over, Reeza Hendricks tucked the delivery from Ravindra Jadeja towards deep mid-wicket and took a single.

Matthew Breetzke charged down for the second run, which wasn’t on. Despite a no-call from Reeza Hendricks, the batter kept coming. Tilak Varma, who was stationed at deep mid-wicket gave an accurate flat throw to Ravindra Jadeja at non-striker’s end. The bowler threw it to keeper Jitesh Sharma, who took the balls off and sent the batter packing.

Matthew Breetzke scored just 16 runs off 7 balls. He looked in great touch and was batting at a strike rate of over 220. He also smashed 1 four and 1 six. It’s fair to say nerves got the better of him and he threw his wicket away.

IND vs SA: India post a total of 180 runs on the board

India were asked to bat first and they didn’t have the kind of start they wanted. Both openers Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal bagged ducks and they were under pressure. However, after that, Tilak Varma (29) and Suryakumar Yadav (56) led the rescue charge and added 49 runs for the third wicket that brought India back in the game.

After the wicket of Tilak Varma, Rinku Singh joined hands with Suryakumar. While the skipper was back after scoring a brisk fifty, Rinku slammed his maiden half-century and scored unbeaten 68 runs that powered India to 180 before rain curtailed the innings. The target was then revised to 152 from 15 overs.
