The NZ vs BAN first T20I will be played in Napier on December 27. This is the first of the three-match series that concludes Bangladesh’s tour of New Zealand. The Tigers lost the ODI series 2-1 that was played before the T20I series.

Bangladesh and New Zealand played each other twice in three months. The Kiwis toured Bangladesh for an ODI series that they won 2-1 just before the World Cup. They then drew a Test series 1-1 after the World Cup.

Now Bangladesh are touring New Zealand and have already lost the ODI series and now will be taking part in a three-match T20I series. The Tigers endured a forgetful World Cup finishing eight on the points table while the Kiwis made it to yet another World Cup semi-final.

Najmul Hossain Shanto will continue to lead the Tigers in this T20I series. He led the side in the ODI series too. Bangladesh as a side are enduring a transitional phase with senior players Shakib Al Hasan, Tamim Iqbal, and Mushfiqur Rahim not a part of the T20I side at the moment. The bowling is led by Mustafizur Rahman and all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz. Bangladesh have won just three T20Is against The Kiwis and this is expected to be another tough series.

New Zealand will be led by Mitchell Santner after Kane Williamson was initially named as the T20I skipper of the side for the series. However, the medical team has withdrawn him and Kyle Jamieson from participating in the series with a focus on the upcoming Test series against Australia and South Africa. Tim Southee will lead the bowling attack that has the likes of Santner, Jacob Duffy, Ben Sears, Adam Milne and Ish Sodhi.

Bangladesh lost the ODI series but surprised everyone by bowling out the Kiwis for just 98 in the third and final ODI. Shoriful Islam, Tanzid Hasan Sakib and Soumya Sarkar picked three wickets each in a brilliant display of batting. The Tigers then chased the score down the score inside 16 overs.

New Zealand and Bangladesh have faced each other in 45 matches in ODIs. Out of these 41 games, New Zealand have won 33 whereas Bangladesh have come out victorious on 11 occasions. In 19 Test matches between the two sides, the Kiwis have won 14 while the Tigers just two. In 17 Test matches, New Zealand have won 14 and Bangladesh three.
