Australia takes on Pakistan in the first Test in Perth starting from December 14. This is the first of the three-match series between the two teams. The series is a part of the ongoing WTC 2023-35 cycle. The Test match starts at 7.50 am IST.

Pakistan are topping the WTC table heading into this series. Australia, the defending champions of the World Test Championship are placed fifth currently. They look set to challenge the Men in Green at home with the squad they have selected. It’s a power-packed squad with all their Test regulars back in the side.

As per reports, this is the farewell Test series for David Warner, the belligerent opener. He will retire from Tests after the final Test match at the SG in Sydney which is also his home ground. This is Pakistan’s first tour of Australia since 2019. They were whitewashed in the two-match Test series when they visited last.

Australia recently won the ODI World Cup and has now shifted its focus to Test cricket. They will be led by Pat Cummins who had a brilliant time as a skipper in 2023, winning the Ashes, the WTC Final, and also the World Cup. He will be up for this series.

Pakistan on the other hand, have had monumental changes to its administrative setup after its World Cup debacle. Babar Azam stepped down as captain across formats. Shan Masood was named the new Test captain. Former Pakistan cricketer Wahab Riaz was named the new PCB Chairman of Selectors, while Mohammad Hafeez was named as the Director of Pakistan Cricket replacing Mickey Arthur.

Australia last played in the Ashes against England earlier this year while Pakistan played against England in December 2022 losing 0-3.
