Watch: Ravi Shastri Open To Becoming England Coach As Pressure Increases On Matthew Mott

Ravi Shastri

Former Team India coach Ravi Shastri has said he won’t have any problem in becoming England’s head coach. In the wake of England’s disastrous performance in the ongoing ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023, there have been calls from several quarters to sack head coach Matthew Mott.

Mott took charge of the England team in May last year and had an instant impact as England won the T20 World Cup under his coaching. But things have not really unfolded in a manner he would have anticipated in the ongoing tournament. England entered the competition as the reigning champions and one of the strongest contenders for the title.

But with each passing game, their title-defence kept falling apart as they managed just a solitary win from their opening seven games. On Wednesday (November 8), they finally returned to winning ways with a win over the Netherlands to end their five-match losing streak. The defending champions beat the Dutch outfit by 160 runs to move to the seventh spot in the points table.

Ravi Shastri open to coaching England:

As England were busy playing against the Netherlands, the commentators saw an interesting placard in the stands. One of the fan held the placard that read: “England need Indian coach.” Former England captain Eoin Morgan who was in the commentary box along with Ravi Shastri quickly asked the latter about the fan’s opinion.

And in reply, the former India head coach made it clear that he won’t have any problem in taking the job. Responding in his unique manner, the former India allrounder said:

“Haan, humko bulao, hum sabko Hindi sikhayega. What I am trying to say is, yeah, most welcome. I’ll teach everyone Hindi and some cricket as well, Not a problem.”

Ravi Shastri coached the Indian team for more than 4 years before stepping down in 2021 after the T20 World Cup. He took charge of the team in 2017 after India’s loss in the final of the Champions Trophy. Although India did not win any ICC trophy during his tenure, their performance in bilateral assignments was highly impressive.
