Tim David is the latest cricketer to raise concerns over Pakistan National Cricket Team spinner Usman Tariq's bowling action after being dismissed by the spinner in a men's The Hundred match.
David was visibly not happy with the dismissal and the bowling action of the Pakistani bowler as he spontaneously called for a review after he edged an outside of the off stump ball off Usman through to the keeper's gloves behind the stumps.

The umpire signalled it for a legitimate caught behind the stumps dismissal. David signalled to review the decision only to be turned down by the umpire. While the batter was walking off the pitch, he talked with the umpire for a few seconds, which seemed likely to express his concerns over Usman Tariq's bowling action.

Controversy on the Usman's bowling action is nothing new in cricket. On multiple occasions, cricketers and umpires have shown their doubts over it. But, at the end of the day, Usman Tariq is clear to carry on his bowling action because of the MCC rules.
What are the MCC rules for the bowling actions?
According to the MCC rules for bowling actions, it is stated that a bowling action will be treated as a fair action if the ball is not thrown. The rule specifically mentioned that when the bowler’s arm reaches shoulder level in the delivery swing, the elbow must not be partially or completely straightened before the ball leaves the hand.
In another rule, it is also specified that a delivery will not be considered legal if the bowler shows a "deliberate attempt to distract a batter". Does Usman Tariq throw the balls? The question remains a matter of debate.
Earlier this year, during the Pakistan vs Australia 2nd T20I match, Cameron Green expressed his doubts over the controversial bowling action after being dismissed.
During the 2024 Pakistan Super League and 2025 Pakistan Super League, the bowling actions were under the scanner. In both seasons, Usman's action was reported by the on-field umpires.
Usman Tariq, however, is confident about his bowling action
However, amid the controversy, Usman has his own explanation behind his bowling style. In an interview, he mentioned that because of his unique body structure, his bowling action looks unique. He also claimed that his action was previously tested and was cleared to carry on.
"My action is unique because my body dimensions are unique. My body frame is not like the common person. I do have two elbows in my arm. My arm bends naturally. I have got this tested and cleared. Everyone feels I bend my arms and all that. My bent arm is a biological issue," the Pakistan international said while speaking to MYK Sports in April 2025.
After Tim David's dismissal and his visible dissatisfaction right on the spot, Usman's bowling action again became a talking point among cricket fans across the globe. It will be interesting to see if the on-field umpire takes any further steps after David's dismissal.
