Harmanpreet Kaur snaps back after retirement question at media briefing [Watch video]

Harmanpreet Kaur dismisses controversies surrounding Pakistan match as Asia Cup row reaches ICC Women's World Cup

Harmanpreet Kaur’s candid reply put a reporter in a discomposed situation as she was asked about his retirement. Ahead of the ICC Women’s T20I World Cup 2026, the captains of all the participating teams attended a joint press conference in England. Karu was there, representing the Indian Women’s cricket team.

Reporters asked various questions to the Team India captain, but when she was asked about her retirement plans, Harmanpreet Kaur’s replies were sharp and directly pointed towards the questioner. It was visible that the skipper was not very happy with that topic, especially when the team is heading towards a tournament like the World Cup.

Harmanpreet Kaur's replies were cold and sharp

Kaur’s reply is going viral on social media platforms, as some of the cricket fans love Harmanpreet Kaur’s way to counter the question. Nowadays, cricketers who are well past thirty often face queries about their retirements.

During the all-captains’ press conference, a reporter asked Harmanpreet Kaur, "Is this your last World Cup? What would you like to say about it?" Maintaining a cold voice, Harmanpreet Kaur replied, “Why is this my last World Cup? Do you want me to retire?”

The reporter might not have expected that kind of reply from the cricketer, so he was then on the wrong note and seemed a little uncomfortable. To manage the situation, the reporter further said, “No, I just wanted to know. I'm glad to hear that this isn't your last World Cup.” This time, the skipper’s reply was sharper than before, as she asked, “Then why are you asking this?”
