The ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL) is hit by another blow in the form of the former Australia opener David Warner, who went back to his home from Pakistan in the mid-way of the season to spend some time with family. He was expected to return ahead of tonight's PSL match. But as per current reports, the experienced opener has not arrived yet in Pakistan.
For the ongoing PSL 2026 season, David Warner has been assigned as the captain of the Karachi Kings. Under the leadership of Warner, the team captured the top spot of the points table as well for a while. So far, after playing three matches, they are undefeated, winning all of the three matches.
David Warner returned to Australia after scoring a half-century in PSL 2026
David Warner returned to Australia to spend Easter after their match against the Pindiz, where the Aussie star scored a half-century. It was earlier reported that after spending some time with family, the batter would join Kings ahead of their next fixture, which is today against the Peshawar Zalmi.
It was reported and confirmed by Cricket Australia as well that the batter will face court next month after being charged by police. Warner was arrested for a drink and drive case in Australia.
Cricket Australia confirmed police action against the cricketer
In a press release, Cricket Australia stated that Warner had been charged by police after allegedly blowing more than twice the legal limit in a random breath test.
"David is aware of the seriousness of these allegations. We will support him through the upcoming process," Cricket NSW CEO Lee Germon said in a statement.
According to an AAP report, Police said Warner was driving a van that stopped and parked short of a roadside breath testing unit at Maroubra in Sydney's east. After that, as he failed the test, he was arrested and taken to Maroubra Police Station for further testing. The 39-year-old was charged after allegedly producing a blood alcohol reading of 0.104 – more than twice the legal limit.
Karachi Kings named new skipper in place of Warner ahead of Peshawar Zalmi match
As David Warner is not available for tonight's match, Hasan Ali is expected to lead Karachi Kings against the Peshawar Zalmi. Additionally, there are concerns about whether the Aussie batter will return to Pakistan for the remaining part of the Pakistan Super League 2026. Ahead of the season, multiple foreign talents pulled themselves out of the tournament for various reasons.
If David Warner remains unavailable to participate in the ongoing season for the PSL franchise, then it will be a major blow for the team, as Warner is not only their captain but also a pillar of their batting unit. It will be difficult to see what the cricketer and the franchise will do in the future. As the hearing for the drink and drive case is still pending, Warner's availability for the franchise league remains uncertain. In his place, Hasan Ali will lead the side.
