As team India prepares itself for the forthcoming T20 World Cup, which is scheduled to start from 7th February. India, who is set to face the USA in their opening game, ahead of the upcoming major event, has been struck with an injury scare with pacer Harshit Rana picking up an injury during the side’s warm-up match against South Africa on Wednesday at the DY Patil Stadium, Navi Mumbai.
The Men in Blue are already suffering from injuries, with the team’s all-rounder Washington Sundar already recovering from a fractured rib he suffered during the India vs New Zealand ODI series. Now, Harshit Rana’s injury right ahead of the team’s opening game will surely give some headache for the management and head coach Gautam Gambhir.
Harshit Rana is doubtful for the World Cup
Harshit Rana pulled off during his run-up twice during an over before holding his knee and hobbling off the field. While he left the field, he was seen holding his knee in distress, and it was then that he hobbled off. The Delhi speedster bowled just one over and conceded 16 runs. India hopes that the injury is not too serious.
An official statement from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is yet to arrive; until then, there has been no information on the severity of the injury that Harshit Rana has suffered during the warm-up game. India will hope he finds a way out to make it to the World Cup, which starts in a few days time.
India suffers a major injury scare
In recent times, India has been suffering from major injuries, as Tilak Varma, who was out injured for the full New Zealand T20I series, returned to the side and played a knock of 45 runs and also bowled one over in the warm-up game. India will hope that he does not get injured further and continues to play the whole marquee tournament.
On the other hand, Sundar, who has been in the 15-man squad for the T20 World Cup, has not fully recovered; he has been going through tests at the BCCI Centre of Excellence. However, has shown good progress in recovery, completing four batting sessions. He was scheduled to have a bowling session yesterday, and further reports of his recovery are still awaited.
India continues to dominate
Both the injured cricketers are still a part of the squad and expected to make it back in time. India will wait for the confirmation from the medical team before announcing their replacement for the major event in India and Sri Lanka. India yet again showcased their blistering batting display on Wednesday evening, posting 240 runs against the Proteas.
Though Harshit Rana would not start the games with two specialist pacers, Arshdeep Singh and Jasprit Bumrah, in the squad. India has won 32 out of 43 matches under the leadership of Suryakumar Yadav. Suryakumar Yadav’s side has a huge task ahead to defend the trophy as the reigning champions are the favourites coming to the World Cup and can be the first team to win the T20 World Cup at home.
