Pakistan publicly rewards IPL-rejected Mustafizur Rahman with PSL deal

Mustafizur Rahman

Bangladesh pacer Mustafizur Rahman has been offered a spot in the PSL after his exit from the IPL 2026 following the BCCI's diktat. The Pakistan Cricket Board grabbed the opportunity when tensions started to build between the BCCI and the BCB.

The controversy that has taken the internet by storm over the last few days, surrounding Bangladesh seasoned pacer Mustafizur Rahman's snub from the IPL franchise KKR after being bought for a whopping INR 9.2 crores, has now taken a massive turn.

Until now, the Bangladesh pacer, who has been excellent in the domestic franchise tournament BPL and was a stunning performer in the ILT20 season as well, has finally been recognized for his excellence by the rival cricket board of the BCCI.

PSL confirms Mustafizur Rahman's signing after IPL rejection

Bangladesh pacer Mustafizur Rahman's contract was cancelled by the Kolkata Knight Riders after the BCCI had issued a directive following the anti-Bangladesh campaigns in the country and the threats issued to KKR, which could jeopardize the security of so many cricketers for just that one cricketer, Rahman.

The PSL grabbed this opportunity with grace and has featured Rahman for the first time in the PSL following his exit from the IPL. The Mohsin Naqvi-led PCB board has confirmed the signing of Rahman to the PSL.

"Batters better shake carefully… its going to Fizz in the #NewEra. Mustafizur Rahman joins HBL PSL 11!" the league wrote.

PSL likely to target many players unsold in the IPL

The Pakistan Super League will play its 11th edition, and the window had to be shifted again due to the clash with the ICC T20 World Cup, as a result of which it will now clash with the original window of the IPL.

The IPL mini-auction marked several significant players being left unsold. One of the prior names that comes to mind is of the star New Zealand cricketer Devon Conway. Conway has shown great form since then and will also be part of New Zealand's T20I campaign in India and the upcoming T20 World Cup.

Such players of excellence who have been overlooked in the IPL can get their value contracts in the PSL. The Pakistan Super League is still developing and attracts several global talents; however, the IPL remains the most prestigious and financially valued league in the world.

Bangladesh government orders a prohibition of IPL broadcasts in the country

After the exclusion of Mustafizur Rahman from the IPL, the Bangladesh government officials acting as advisors to the BCB have directed the Bangladesh Information and Broadcasting Ministry to suspend the broadcast of IPL matches in the country.

They have objected that no logical reason has been provided for Mustafizur's snub, an action that has left the people of Bangladesh hurt and agitated. Hence, under such circumstances, the IPL broadcast will remain suspended until further notice from the government or the BCB. The IPL 2026 season has been scheduled to begin on the 26th of March.
