Team India stand-in skipper Rishabh Pant recorded his second consecutive low score in the second Test against South Africa at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati. Fans were absolutely furious over the wicketkeeper-batter's dismissal when they needed to save the Test on Day 5 (Wednesday, November 26).

South Africa set an improbable 549 for the home team in the match. The visitors bagged two early wickets in the final session of the fourth day, leaving India struggling at 27/2 in 15.5 overs. However, fans expected a better performance from the Indian batters to save a match on a surface that hasn’t deteriorated a lot.

Rishabh Pant Dismissed for Just 13 in the Second Innings

The home team had luck in the morning session, as Sai Sudharsan was dismissed off a no-ball and Kuldeep Yadav's catch was dropped. Simon Harmer provided the breakthrough for his team by removing Kuldeep, who scored 5 off 38 balls. Dhruv Jurel’s stay at the crease ended quickly as he scored just 2 runs.

Rishabh Pant walked in at No. 6 after Dhruv Jurel’s dismissal. Harmer continued his brilliant spell and struck again. Pant tried to defend a tossed-up delivery that bounced more than expected, and the ball hit the top of his bat before looping towards slip.

Aiden Markram moved quickly to his left and completed yet another catch. Pant was dismissed for 13, leaving India five down for just 58 runs. Harmer picked up his third wicket of the morning as South Africa remained in control and India’s collapse continued.

Team India Still Need to Bat Out Over Two and a Half Sessions for a Draw

India walked into the final day needing to bat through 90 overs to escape with a draw and avoid another home series whitewash. A draw would also help them collect valuable World Test Championship points.

However, Simon Harmer removed three batters in quick succession, leaving India in deep trouble. With only five wickets remaining, the visitors were in complete control of the match and had plenty of time to push for a historic win.

At the time of writing, Ravindra Jadeja and Sai Sudharsan were at the crease with India struggling at 71/5. The huge target of 549 was never realistic, leaving a draw or a South African victory as the only possible outcomes.
