England, led by Harry Brook, created history during the second T20I of the three-match series against South Africa at Emirates Old Trafford in Manchester on Friday, September 12 (local). The two-time T20 World Cup champions became the first team to score over 300 runs against a Test-playing nation in T20Is.

Philip Salt scored an unbeaten 141 runs off just 60 balls, including 15 fours and eight maximums. Jos Buttler added 83 runs from 30 deliveries, while Harry Brook chipped in with a quickfire 41 off 21. England posted a total of 304/2 in their 20 overs before sealing the contest with an emphatic 146-run victory.

England Becomes First Team to Post 300 Against a Full-Member Nation in T20Is

England created history in T20 internationals, as it was the first time that a team crossed the 300-run mark in a match between two Test-playing nations. India had previously come close to the landmark by scoring 297/6 against Bangladesh in Hyderabad in 2024.

Zimbabwe were the first full-member nation to reach the milestone. The team had smashed 344/4 against Gambia in Nairobi in October 2024. They went on to dominate that match with a record 290-run win.

Phil Salt Registers Highest Individual T20I Score for England

Phil Salt played his career-best knock in Manchester. He scored an unbeaten 141 off 60 balls. The right-handed batter broke his own record of 119 against the West Indies in Tarouba in 2023.

Salt also surpassed New Zealand opener Finn Allen, who had scored 137 against Pakistan last year, in the list of highest individual scores in the format. However, the record still belongs to former Australia skipper Aaron Finch, who smashed 172 against Zimbabwe in 2018.

Phil Salt Scores Fastest Century by an England Batter in 39 Balls

Phil Salt smashed his fourth T20 international century, reaching the landmark in just 39 deliveries. The opening batter surpassed Liam Livingstone, who had scored a century off 42 balls against Pakistan in 2021, to become the fastest centurion by an England player in the format.

South African middle-order batter David Miller, who scored a 35-ball century against Bangladesh in 2017, holds the record for the fastest T20 hundred between two Test nations.

Salt also became the quickest player to notch up four T20I centuries. He completed the milestone in only 42 innings, faster than Suryakumar Yadav, who took 57. Only Rohit Sharma and Glenn Maxwell have more, with five centuries each in the shorter international format.
