Rohit Sharma-led India, on Saturday (June 22), thrashed Bangladesh by 50 runs in the Super 8 clash of the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2024. The win has all but sealed India's place in the semifinal of the competition.
Before the win over Bangladesh, India had thrashed Afghanistan by 47 runs in their first Super 8 game. Asked to bat first, India piled up a big total of 196 for 5 in the allotted 20 overs. It is India's highest score in the ongoing competition so far.
After the likes of Rohit Sharma (24), Virat Kohli (37), Rishabh Pant (36) and Shivam Dube (34) played useful knocks, Hardik Pandya helped India close the innings strongly by scoring a quickfire fifty. He scored an unbeaten 50 off 27 balls with the help of four fours and three sixes as India crossed the 190-run mark for the first time in the tournament.
In reply, Bangladesh finished their innings on 146 for 8. Barring captain Najmul Hossain Shanto (40), no other Bangladesh batter could touch the 30-run mark. For India, Kuldeep Yadav starred with the ball, taking 3 for 19 off 4 overs while Arshdeep Singh and Jasprit Bumrah picked up 2 wickets apiece.
Rohit Sharma's advice for Kuldeep Yadav:
During the game, a brilliant moment involving India captain Rohit Sharma was witnessed. The incident took place in the 14th over when Kuldeep Yadav was bowling. On the third ball of the over, the left-arm spinner dismissed Shakib Al Hasan for 7 after being hit for a six on the previous delivery.
As Kuldeep bowled his first delivery to new batter Mahmudullah, captain Rohit Sharma was quick to interrupt with a piece of advice in his own trademark style. The India skipper was not impressed with Kuldeep's bowling and was heard telling him to let the batter play the sweep shot.
"Kya kar raha hai yaar, aada marne de na. Abhi abhi aaya hain ye, ek abhi gaya aada maar ke, isko bhi maarne de na (what you doing, let him sweep. One just got out while sweeping, let him sweep too)," said Rohit Sharma.
