"Thank you, Rohit Sharma" - Twitter erupts in joy as India end ICC title drought by winning T20 World Cup 2024

India vs South Africa

Fans on Twitter reacted after the India Cricket Team finally ended their title drought as they won the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024. They defeated South Africa by 7 runs in the summit clash at the Kensington Oval, Bridgetown, Barbados on Sunday (29th June).

Opting to bat, India was off to a flying start with the bat as Virat Kohli (76) and Rohit Sharma (9) started aggressively with a flurry of boundaries. But Keshav Maharaj pulled things back with two wickets in a single over, removing India's captain and Rishabh Pant.

Virat Kohli then along with Axar Patel (47) led the rescue charge and brought the team back in the game with their 72-run stand. Shivam Dube (27) also contributed to the order as India finished with a total of 176 for seven. For South Africa Maharaj and Anrich Nortje picked two wickets each.

In the chase, South Africa lost Reeza Hendricks and Aiden Markram early but it was Quinton de Kock (39) and Tristan Stubbs (31) who kept the Proteas in the hunt with their blistering innings with the bat.

They counter-attacked the Indian bowlers and added 58 runs for the third wicket. After Stubbs and de Kock got out, it was Heinrich Klaasen (52), who took the game away from India. The keeper-batter put on a brutal show of power-hitting as he took Indian spinners to the cleaners and put the opposition under pressure.

However, Hardik Pandya and Jasprit Bumrah turned the tables for their team with two wickets in two overs. With 16 runs needed off the last over, Pandya removed David Miller (21) and then held his nerves to defend the target and help India win their second T20 World Cup title.
