Thank you for saving dot balls: Shivam Dube mercilessly trolled by fans after being out for a duck against England

Shivam Dube

Shivam Dube, on Thursday (June 28), gave his critics yet another chance to take shots at him as he failed to deliver with the bat during the semifinal game between India and England in the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

The stage was set for the left-handed batsman to show why the selectors and the team management preferred him over someone like Rinku Singh. He walked out to bat in the 18th over and had the perfect platform to go berserk right from the word go.

India were on 146 for 5 and had just lost the wicket of Hardik Pandya when Shivam Dune joined Ravindra Jadeja in the middle. He was the last specialist batsman left and the onus was on him to ensure that the team finishes strongly.

However, Shivam Dube failed to live up to the expectations once again and was out for a golden duck. On the very first ball he faced from Chris Jordan, he ended up playing a poor shot and edged the ball behind the stumps where Jos Buttler took an easy catch.

And as the Mumbai batsman failed to deliver once again, the fans were quick to slam him for yet another failure with the bat. Here are some of the reactions to his latest outing with the bat.

The latest failure has only extended Shivam Dube's mediocre campaign with the bat in the T20 World Cup. During the group stage, he was out for 3 against Pakistan before scoring an unbeaten 31 against the USA. It was followed by a 10-run knock against Afghanistan in the Super 8. He followed it up with knocks of 34 and 28 against Bangladesh and Australia respectively.

India post competitive total:

Coming to the game, India finished their innings on a competitive total of 171 for 7 in the allotted 20 overs. Captain Rohit Sharma led his team from the front as he scored his second consecutive fifty and third of the ongoing tournament.

After Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant departed cheaply inside the powerplay, Rohit and Suryakumar Yadav steadied the ship with a 73-run stand before departing in quick succession. Rohit scored 57 while Yadav scored 47. Hardik Pandya also played a crucial 13-ball 23 run cameo.
