The senior Delhi Capitals (DC) pacer Mukesh Kumar rattled the stumps of the explosive Rajasthan Royals (RR) batsman Rovman Powell in the 56th match of the Indian Premier League 2024 (IPL 2024) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Tuesday, May 7.
Rajasthan Royals won the toss and chose to bowl first in the match. They made two changes to the team as Shimron Hetmyer and Dhruv Jurel were unavailable for selection due to niggle. RR brought in Shubham Dubey and Donovan Ferreira to the team. Delhi Capitals also made two huge changes by bringing in Ishant Sharma and Gulbadin Naib.
Riding on brilliant batting performances from Abishek Porel (65), Jake Fraser-McGurk (50), and Tristan Stubbs (41), Delhi Capitals posted a huge total of 221/8 on the board.
Defending the total, Delhi Capitals bowlers were most good and they kept RR batters, barring Sanju Samson, quiet. The RR skipper showcased a batting masterclass and smashed 86 runs off 46 balls, before being dismissed by Mukesh Kumar in the 16th over.
In the end, the equation came down to 29 off 6 and Mukesh Kumar came to bowl the final over. On the first ball, Trent Boult took a single and gave the strike rate to Rovman Powell with the hope that the West Indies batter could hit some boundaries.
That wasn't the case at all as on the second ball of the 20th over, Mukesh Kumar bowled a 132kph full delivery on off-stump that beat Rovman Powell's blade and crashed onto the stumps. RR were stopped to 201/8 and DC won by 20 runs.

Talking further about Rovman Powell, the batter has received good backing from the Rajasthan Royals team management but he is yet to deliver goods for the team. So far, he has registered scores of 11, 26, 27, and 13 in the 4 innings that he has batted
Speaking ahead of the match, Rovman Powell revealed that there is great communication and clarity in the RR camp, which is the reason behind their success. He also spoke about his batting and said:
"I think it’s the communication between the captain, coaches and players. Communication goes a long way, communication brings clarity throughout the group and I think that has been a driving force in our success so far. As a batter, you get excited but the important thing is when you get to bat, you do the basic things right. I think it was a simple one to reflect on, fortunately, I was there at the last, I just missed a full toss, in close games like that, you can’t overthink, Bhuvi bowled a great over. Hopefully, the next time I’m out there, I can take my team over the line."
Rovman Powell added that he needs to prove his worth to the team and revealed that there is a lot of planning happening at RR behind the scenes. He elaborated:
"There is a bit to prove but it is nothing personal, I’m here to do a job for Rajasthan and I will do that. One thing I like in this team is the way they plan, we as West Indian if we can plan like that, can go into the specific details, that is something that I am looking to take from a personal standpoint and see how can I rub it onto my fellow West Indians."
