Mumbai Indians registered their third win of the season as they thumped Punjab Kings (PBKS) by 9 runs in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 on Thursday. They were top-notch with the bat and ball and bagged important few points under their belt.

Mumbai Indians were asked to bat first and they didn't have a great start with the bat. Ishan Kishan (8) perished early after a start. But after that, Rohit Sharma (36) and Suryakumar Yadav stole the limelight with their magnificent partnership for the second wicket.
The duo added 81 runs for the second wicket before Rohit got out. After that, Suryakumar Yadav went on to slam a magnificent half-century, which was his second in the season. He played a magnificent innings of 78 runs off 53 balls to put his team in the driver's seat.
Punjab Kings then made a slight comeback as they picked two quick wickets. Skipper Hardik Pandya perished just after Suryakumar Yadav got out as Mumbai Indians lost two wickets at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur, Chandigarh.
Tilak Varma (33*) played a sensational innings and kept going after the bowlers despite wickets falling at the other end. Tim David (14) played some hits in the end as they powered their team to a big total. Mumbai Indians ended with a total of 193 runs on the board.
For Punjab Kings, Harshal Patel was the pick of the bowlers with his figures of 3/31. Apart from him, skipper Sam Curran bagged figures of 2/41 in his 4 overs whereas Kagiso Rabada and Harshal Patel picked one wicket each.

PBKS vs MI IPL 2024 Match 33: Punjab Kings innings: Shashank Singh, and Ashutosh Sharma keep Punjab Kings in the hunt but fail to take the team home
Punjab Kings were off the to worst possible start with the bat. Mumbai Indians pacers Jasprit Bumrah and Gelard Coetzee wreaked havoc across the opposition's batting lineup and left them tottering at 77/6.
It seemed that Punjab Kings would lose the game but after that, their reliable duo of Shashank Singh and Ashutosh Sharma yet again tilted the game in their team's favor. The duo added 34 runs together before the former got out for 41 runs to Jasprit Bumrah.
Ashutosh Sharma (61) then took the onus to themselves and made mockery of the Mumbai Indians bowling lineup. He brought up a magnificent half-century and kept his team in the hunt. But Mumbai bowlers held their nerves well and won the game by 9 runs.
