PBKS vs GT: Shubman Gill lifts lid on alteration with Liam Livingstone after crushing Punjab Kings

Shubman Gill

The Shubman Gill-led Gujarat Titans (GT) were seen in action in the 37th match of the Indian Premier League 2024 (IPL 2024) against the Punjab Kings (PBKS) on Sunday, April 21, at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium, Mullanpur, New Chandigarh.

After being invited to bowl first in the match, the Gujarat Titans spinners made life hell for the Punjab Kings batters. Sai Kishore, Rashid Khan, and Noor Ahmad picked 7 wickets between them while Mohit Sharma got two wickets to bundle out the opposition for 142 runs. Chasing the target, Shubman Gill, Sai Sudharsan and Rahul Tewatia contributed runs in the 30s to steer GT to a 3-wicket win in the reverse fixture.

At the post-match presentation ceremony, Shubman Gill said that he would've liked to finish the match early against PBKS. Shubman Gill stated:

"Would have liked to finish it a bit early, but good to get those two points."

Speaking about his captaincy, Shubman Gill said that things have been going smoothly for him other than the slow over-rate. Shubman Gill said:

"(Captaincy) It's been very exciting for me to be able to take up this role. Except for the over-rate, everything has been good. When I am out there batting, I just want to play as a batter, I don't want to think too much about the captaincy."

Talking about his small alteration with Liam Livingstone, who did an aggressive celebration after dismissing him. Shubman Gill said:

"He (Livingstone) was trying to rush me there but the ball that I got out, I would have made that decision even if I was batting as a batsman or even without that little bit that we had (small altercation)."

What Happened In The Previous IPL 2024 Match Between Punjab Kings (PBKS) And Gujarat Titans (GT)

In the 17th match of the Indian Premier League 2024 (IPL 2024), GT and PBKS took on each other on April 04, 2024, at the Narendra Modi Stadium and that match saw the emergence of PBKS batsman Shashank Singh, who played a blinder to help his team registered a thrilling win by 3 wickets with 1 ball remaining.

Punjab Kings won the toss and elected to bowl first in the match. The bowlers didn't look impressive in the innings and allowed GT to post a huge total of 199/4 on the board, riding on Shubman Gill's sensational 89-run knock and other batters' decent contributions. For Punjab Kings, Kagiso Rabada bagged two wickets while Harpreet Brar and Harshal Patel got one wicket each.

Chasing the target, the top order of Punjab Kings once again struggled to get going and they lost half of their side for 111 runs. It looked like PBKS would lose the match and hand an easy victory to GT but it didn't happen as Shashank Singh joined forces with Ashutosh Sharma to snatch victory from the jaws of the defeat. Shashank Singh slammed 61 runs while Ashutosh Sharma smashed 31 runs to help PBKS win the match by 3 wickets.
