Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) are having an up-and-down season in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. Ahead of the game against Rajasthan Royals (RR) on Saturday (27th April), they looked like one of the favorites for the playoffs but things have changed slightly for them.
Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) didn't have a great outing against Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the 44th game of the IPL 2024. The match took place at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow and the home suffered a 7-wicket thrashing.
Lucknow Super Giants didn't have a great start with the bat after losing the toss. They lost Quinton de Kock (8) and Marcus Stoinis inside the first two overs. However, despite the early blows skipper KL Rahul stood tall for his team and bailed them out of trouble.
KL Rahul scored 76 runs and was complimented well by Deepak Hooda, who scored 50 runs. The duo added 115 runs partnership for the third wicket and made sure that they took their team to the competitive total on the board at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow.
Ayush Badoni (18*) and Krunal Pandya (15*) in the end hit some blows and made sure that Lucknow Super Giants ended with the total close to 200. Based on the collective effort with the bat the home team posted a total of 196/5.
For Rajasthan Royals, Sandeep Sharma was the pick of the bowlers with his figures of 2/31. Trent Boult, Avesh Khan, and Ravichandran Ashwin also entered their names in the wickets column.
With the ball, the Lucknow Super Giants didn't have a great outing. Although they removed Yashasvi Jaiswal (24), Jos Buttler (34), and Riyan Parag (14) in quick succession of time, they failed to cash on the momentum and put pressure on the opposition.
RR skipper Sanju Samson (71*) and Dhruv Jurel (52*) batted sensationally well and added unbeaten 121 runs together and took the team home with 7 wickets in hand and one over to spare.
Lucknow Super Giants Qualification Scenario for the IPL 2024 Playoffs
This was Lucknow Super Giants' 4th loss in the Indian Premier League. However, despite that, they sit comfortably in the 4th spot in the points table. They have managed 5 wins as well and have 10 points as well with a decent NRR of +0.059.
Even though they suffered a loss against Rajasthan Royals, they still are very much in contention for the spot in the playoffs. The Lucknow Super Giants have 5 games remaining in the tournament and they would fancy themselves to claim the spot in the knockout stage.
For them to qualify, they need to win at least 3 of their last 5 games in the IPL 2024. If they do that they would reach 16 points, which is likely to earn a playoff spot. Even if they lose 3 games they will be in the race but they need to make sure they win two games by big margins to up their NRR. They cannot afford to lose 4 games.
