Team Analysis- IND vs ENG Match Preview- 5th Test, 2024

India

Jasprit Bumrah is back for the fifth and final Test match in Dharamsala. He was rested for the fourth Test match in Ranchi with Akash Deep getting his maiden Test cap. It will be interesting to see that with his return India opts to play with three pacers and three spinners or changes their bowling combination.

The batting lineup is pretty much expected to remain the same with Dhruv Jurel being the specialist keeper-batter at number six. There were talks about Shubman Gill’s form but his matchwinning partnership with Jural has put all that to bed. The next Test will be the 100th Tets for veteran Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin.

India Squad

Rohit Sharma (c), Jasprit Bumrah (vc), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, Rajat Patidar, Sarfaraz Khan, Dhruv Jurel (WK), KS Bharat (WK), Devdutt Padikkal, R Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohd. Siraj, Mukesh Kumar, Akash Deep.

England

England will be led by Ben Stokes. They have lost the Test series but have made an impact with their “Bazball” brand of cricket. Ben Stokes’ captaincy has deserved a lot of praise from cricket experts. The kind of backing he has shown to his bowlers, especially to his young spinners has been a thing to watch out for.

With the ball, the entire England batting line has been below-par throughout the series. In between there have been impactful performances like the one from Joe Root in Ranchi. Heading into the final Test, the batters would like to play some orthodox cricket. The next Test will be Jonny Bairstow’s 100th as well.

As far as the England bowling lineup is concerned, the spinners are expected to retain their place. There are reports of GUs Atkinson replacing Ollie Robinson in the XI.

England Squad

Ben Stokes (Captain), Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett, Joe Root, Daniel Lawrence, Rehan Ahmed, Jonny Bairstow, Ben Foakes, Ollie Pope, James Anderson, Gus Atkinson, Shoaib Bashir, Tom Hartley, Ollie Robinson, Mark Wood.

Key Battles

Yashasvi Jaiswal vs James Anderson

This battle is expected to continue in Dharamsala. It will be interesting to see whether Jaiswal changes his approach to Anderson or whether the veteran bowler can outfox the youngster.

Joe Root vs Jasprit Bumrah

All the focus will be on Bumrah’s return and on whether Root can carry forward his form from Ranchi. Bumrah has dismissed Root nine times in his Test career.

Ben Stokes vs Ravichandran Ashwin

The focus will also be on Ravichandran Ashwin’s 100th Test match and whether he will be able to rouble England’s best. Ben Stokes is someone who has been troubled a lot by Ashwin being dismissed 12 times by the Indian off-spinner.

Key Players

Yashasvi Jaiswal, Jasprit Bumrah, and the spin trio of Ashwin, Jadeja, and Kuldeep will be key for India. Eyes will also be on Rohit Sharma. Shubman Gill and Dhruv Jurel.

For England, Joe Root, Ben Stokes, James Anderson, Shoaib Bashir, and the openers Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett will be key.

Conclusion

India have already won the series 3-1. They have a chance to win the series 4-1. The inclement weather might play spoilsport in the contest. There are also reports of the Dharamsala pitch likely to be a rank-turner.
