The third and final IND vs SA ODI will be played in Paarl on December 21, Thursday. The series is poised after India won the first ODI and South Africa bounced back to win the second. The third ODI starts from 4.30 pm IST which is 1 pm local time.
South Africa bounced back in style to win the second ODI. They bowled out India for just 211 and chased down the target inside 43 overs with Tony de Zorzi scoring his maiden ODI ton.
The second ODI loss ended KL Rahul’s 10-match winning streak as India captain in the format. India were whitewashed by South Africa under KL Rahul’s captaincy in 2022 and this time around they are poised to win the series after taking it to the decider.
The Indian batters were outplayed by the Proteas bowlers. Sai Sudharshan top-scored with 62 followed by KL Rahul’s 52. None of the other batters in the Indian lineup scored over 20 runs. Rinku Singh (17) was the third-highest scorer in the Indian innings as their weakness against the moving ball was exposed once again.
While the Indian batters struggled, Zorzi and Reeza Hendricks (52) added a 130-run for the first wicket thereby setting the ideal platform for a small chase. The southpaw played with an attacking approach right from the start and did not allow the Indian bowlers to settle. His unorthodox strokeplay was one of the most important features during his innings.
Lack of application from the Indian batters was very evident on how they went about losing their wickets. Rahul Saju Samson and Rinku Singh especially lost their wickets when they should have carried on for the team’s cause.
South African bowlers led by Nandre Burger were on point, The South African pacer courtesy of his impactful performance also bagged an IPL deal with Rajasthan Royals who picked him up for 50 lakhs. Keshav Maharaj also picked up two wickets and was played ahead of Tabraiz Shamsi.
With the bat, it was Zorzi who led the charge and Hendricks followed suit with his efficient strokeplay. It was a match where everything clicked for the hosts while the visitors struggled to put up a fighting performance. This was South Africa’s 51st win over India in 93 ODIs.
Heading into the decider in Paarl, the hosts would like to stick to the same template of staying on point with both bat and ball. It is for certain that the Indian batters need to bat a lot better to win the decider. One vital change in the Indian XI can be the inclusion of Yuzvendra Chahal instead of one of the pacers in the lineup.
