IND vs SA: India Play Intra-Squad Match Behind Closed Doors; Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal Shine

On the ongoing South African tour, the India National Cricket Team will be playing a two-match Test series starting on December 26 at the SuperSport Park in Centurion.

The Men In Blue have played the finals of the last two editions of the World Test Championship and are one of the best teams in the Test format in the modern era. They will be aiming to win a Test series in South Africa for the first time in the upcoming fixtures.

Ahead of the Test series, the India National Cricket Team is practicing at the Tuks Oval in Pretoria which is 45 minutes away from the SuperSport Park in Centurion. Keeping the first Test in mind, the team management doesn’t want any outsider to witness their intra-squad practice match.

Team India banned outsiders from witnessing practice match at Tuks Oval

This strategy is known as the ‘closed door’ training and the India National Cricket Team don’t want to give out an idea of what would be their strategy for the first Test match, as per PTI. This strategy is mainly used in Football wherein only the media is allowed to watch the warm-up games. Later the media is also said to move out when the coaches come in to do tactical training.

Getting to India’s practice session, the team played an intra-squad match wherein Shubman Gill got himself to a century whereas Yashasvi Jaiswal ended up scoring a half-century.

The India National Cricket Team were able to achieve a win when they last played a Test match in Centurion back in 2021, but they lost the last two matches and were not able to win the series. However, the India National Cricket Team are in red-hot form and have a world-class bowling attack.

The Temba Bavuma-led side won a Test series against Bangladesh by 2-0 when they last played a Test series at home. The Proteas will once again have the home advantage and might be slight favorites to win the match in Centurion.

However, the SuperSport Park surface is always favorable for the bowlers and has a lot of seam and bounce. Indian pacers such as Mohammed Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah who are ‘hit the deck’ bowlers might also get a lot out of the pitch.

On top of that, Virat Kohli also has a decent record in South Africa, and with the kind of form the ‘modern master’ has been in this year, the Indian team will once again expect big runs from the right-handed batsman. Indian captain Rohit Sharma will also look to chip in and add up some runs with the bat.

Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will be returning to international cricket after the ODI World Cup 2023 final and aim to start off fresh after the loss against Australia.

The India National Cricket Team are currently ranked on the top spot of the ICC World Test Championship and also the Men’s Test team rankings.
