We Are Taking That Seriously: Unhappy BCB Seeks Explanation From Allan Donald For Comments Against Shakib Al Hasan

Former South Africa fast-bowler Allan Donald has landed in hot waters for his recent comments on Angelo Mathews’ controversial dismissal. The legendary bowler, who is currently plying his trade as Bangladesh’s fast-bowling coach, refused to back Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan’s action against Sri Lanka.

Shakib Al Hasan has faced severe criticism for his ‘time out’ dismissal appeal against Mathews during the game  between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka earlier this week. The former Sri Lanka captain became the first cricketer in the history of international cricket to get timed out after Shakib decided against withdrawing the appeal.

The incident took place during the 25th over of Sri Lanka’s innings. Mathews arrived at the crease on time but as he was about to take guard to face the first ball, he found out that the strap of his helmet was broken. He immediately asked for a new helmet.

As the substitute player ran out with a different helmet, Shakib decided to appeal for a ‘time out’ dismissal. According to the rules, the new batter should be ready to face the first ball inside two minutes of the last dismissal. With Shakib deciding against withdrawing the appeal, Mathews had no option but to walk off after being adjudged out by the umpire.

BCB seeks explanation from Allan Donald:

Following the incident, Allan Donald expressed his disappointment over the incident, saying that he did not like the appeal and that he was on the verge of running out on the field to stop Shakib from appealing for a dismissal. As far as Shakib himself is concerned, he did not hesitate in justifying his actions after the game.

“It was disappointing to see. I can understand Shakib taking his chance. His words were ‘I was doing everything to win’. You can sense in my voice that I don’t like it ,” Allan Donald said during an interview with CricBlog.Net.

“I don’t like that sort of thing. It was really difficult to watch that unfold – one of Sri Lanka’s all-time greats walking off the field without a ball bowled to him being given out for time. That’s where I stand on that,” he added.

The comments from the ex-Proteas bowler, however, has not gone down well with the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). According to a report in Cricbuzz, the BCB is all set to seek explanation from him over his comments.

“We have seen the news quoting Donald and we are taking that seriously. We will certainly seek an explanation in the coming days,” said an official.
