Team India, on Tuesday (November 28), missed the opportunity to seal the five-match T20I series against Australia as the visitors defeated them by 5 wickets to keep the series alive. After registering impressive wins in the first two T20Is, Team India had the momentum on their side.
And the Men in Blue looked set to win the third game too after posting a mammoth total of 222 for 3 in the allotted 20 overs. Asked to bat first, India were off to a poor start as Yashasvi Jaiswal (6) and Ishan Kishan (0) departed cheaply. A 57-run stand between Ruturaj Gaikwad and Suryakumar Yadav steadied the ship before the latter departed for 39.
Gaikwad and Tilak Varma then shared an unbeaten stand of 141 runs to propel India to a huge total. Gaikwad led the charge with the bat while Varma played the role of the second fiddle. The right-handed batsman smashed his maiden T20I fifty to help India post a 200-plus total. He scored 123 runs off just 57 balls with the help of 13 fours and 7 sixes. Varma, on the other hand, scored 31.
Prasidh Krishna registers worst figures:
Team India failed to defend the huge total as Australia clinched a thrilling 5-wicket win. The architect of the win was Glenn Maxwell who scored a sensational unbeaten century. Just days after scoring a historic double-century against Afghanistan in the World Cup, the Australia star came up with yet another memorable knock to keep his team’s slim chances of winning the series alive.
Australia were reeling at 68 for 3 at one stage but Glenn Maxwell stood firm at one end and remained till the end to take his team home. And while he had a day to remember, India pacer Prasidh Krishna had a forgettable day. He ended the match by registering the worst figures by an Indian bowler in T20Is.
The right-arm pacer conceded 68 runs in his four overs and failed to pick up any wicket. In his first over, Prasidh Krishna gave away 16 runs with Travis Head slamming him for four fours before conceding 23 runs in the second over. He bowled a good 18th over and conceded just 6 runs to put India on top before undoing the good work in the final over.
Prasidh Krishna had to defend 21 runs in the final over and 16 runs off the last 4 balls but failed to do so. In the end, he conceded 68 runs and broke Yuzvendra Chahal’s record of worst figures by an Indian in T20Is. Chahal had conceded 64 runs against South Africa in 2018. The overall record is held by Kasun Rajitha who was hit for 75 runs in his 4 overs against Australia in 2019.
