Mitchell Marsh Says Rajkot Conditions "Hottest I Have Faced" After 3rd ODI Knock Against India

Mitchell Marsh, on Friday (October 20), scored a stunning century to help Australia beat Pakistan by 62 runs in the 18th match of the ongoing ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023.

Having won only one of their first three games, Australia desperately needed to win the game against Pakistan to ensure that they remain in contention for the semifinals. And their openers – Mitchell Marsh and David Warner rose to the occasion. Both of them scored century to lay the foundation for a huge total after Pakistan won the toss and elected to bowl first.

The duo shared a record stand of 259 runs for the first wicket before Shaheen Afridi dismissed Mitchell Marsh to give his side the much-needed first breakthrough. Before departing, the right-handed batsman has smashed 121 runs of 108 balls with the help of 10 fours and 9 sixes. Marsh was also celebrating his birthday on Friday and he could not have asked for a better outing.

His World Cup century on his birthday was made even more special by the fans at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. As he played on the field, hundreds of fans started singing ‘Happy Birthday’ to him. Marsh happily acknowledged their birthday wishes, making it a heartwarming moment.

Australia thrash Pakistan:

Talking about the game, centuries from Warner and Marsh propelled Australia to a huge total of 367 for 9. At one stage, they were looking set to score more than 400 runs but Pakistan managed to finish strongly with the ball thanks to Shaheen Afridi’s five-wicket haul.

In reply, Pakistan started well as their openers Abdullah Shafique and Imam-ul-Haq added 134 runs for the first wicket. But both of them were dismissed by Marcus Stoinis in quick succession and Pakistan just could not recover after that. They kept losing wickets at crucial junctures and were eventually all out for 305 runs.
