ENG vs BAN: Bangladesh Penalized For Maintaining Slow Over-Rate Against England In ICC World Cup 2023

Bangladesh

Bangladesh Cricket Team have been fined five percent of their match fees for maintaining a slow over-rate against England in match 7 of the ICC World Cup 2023. The Shakib Al Hasan-led side was guilty of bowling an over short of the target at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala.

Match Referees Javagal Srinath imposed the sanctions and skipper Shakib Al Hasan accepted it so there was no need for formal heading. On-field umpires Ahsan Raza and Paul Wilson, third umpire Adrian Holdstock and fourth umpire Kumar Dharmasena leveled the charge.

The day didn’t go well for Bangladesh as apart from the fine, they suffered a massive loss against England as well. The Shakib Al Hasan-led side were handed a massive 137-run loss in their second game of the ICC World Cup 2023. They won the first game against Afghanistan.

Bangladesh bowled first and the decision didn’t go well with them as England batters thrashed them all over the park. Jonny Bairstow (52), Dawid Malan (140) and Joe Root (82) batted superbly and posted a gigantic total of 364 runs on the board.

With the bat, Bangladesh didn’t go well as they were tottering at 49/4. After that Litton Das (76) and Mushfiqur Rahim (51) tried their best but it wasn’t enough. England kept picking wickets at regular intervals and bundled them on just 227 runs and won the game by 137 runs.

ENG vs BAN: We have to move on, keep doing the right things – Shakib Al Hasan after Bangladesh’s loss

Shakib Al Hasan talked about the loss Bangladesh suffered. He admitted that his side couldn’t execute the plans well but they need to move on as it’s a long tournament. He explained:

“We did well in the last 10 overs but it will always be tough to chase 350. We planned well, but we couldn’t execute. The ball was swinging nicely, needed to put in the right areas and build momentum. Once they got the momentum it was tough to contain them.

“I think the position they were in, they could have scored 380-390, we restricted them well. But I think 320 would have been a good total to chase here. It is a long tournament, we have a tough fixture coming up in Chennai, NZ are playing well. We have to move on, keep doing the right things and take it one game at a time.”

Bangladesh will be next seen in action when they will take on New Zealand in Chennai on Friday (13th October).
