The 23-year-old India National Cricket Team opening batsman Shubman Gill opened up on his failure against Pakistan following a cracking performance against Nepal in the 5th match of Asia Cup 2023 at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium on Monday, September 4.

India won the toss and elected to bowl first in the match. The bowlers did well initially and could have bagged three wickets had the fielders supported, but it didn’t happen and Nepal were off to a flying start.

The man with the golden arm Shardul Thakur got the first breakthrough and Ravindra Jadeja along with Mohammed Siraj brought India back into the game. In the end, Nepal were bundled out for 230. Jadeja and Siraj bagged three wickets each, and Mohammed Shami, Hardik Pandya, and Shardul Thakur got one wicket each.

Chasing the target of 145 as per DLS, India openers Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill looked scratchy initially. However, after the rain break, they looked completely different and brought out their best.

They added 147* runs in 121 balls to guide India to a dominant victory. Rohit Sharma, who started slow, finished with a score of 74 off 59 deliveries, including 6 fours and 5 sixes, while Shubman Gill scored 67 runs off 62 balls, with 8 fours and 1 six.

Quite disappointed with the way I got out day before yesterday – Shubman Gill

After his terrific performance against Nepal, Shubman Gill spoke about his poor 32-ball 10 in the rain-spoiled game against Pakistan. He said that he was extremely disappointed with his innings.

Shubman Gill further spoke about his partnership with Rohit Sharma and said that their combination works quite well. He also lavished praise on Nepal for their bowling performance. Shubman Gill elaborated:

“Quite disappointed with the way I got out day before yesterday. It was important for me to finish the game along with Rohit bhai and we did that.”

“He (Rohit) is the kind of player who likes to take the bowlers on aerial. I am the kind of player like to hit more boundaries than aerial. That combination works quite well for us. They bowled very well with the new ball, they challenged us. We knew once the ball gets wet, it’ll get easier for the batsmen. That’s what the talk was in the dressing room”
