After falling at the final hurdle in 2021 and 2022, Southern Brave are champions of the women’s Hundred in 2023 – here is Wisden’s team of the tournament.
Southern Brave eased past Northern Superchargers in the final by 34 runs, with Danni Wyatt making a half-century, and Lauren Bell and Kalea Moore leading the defence with three wickets each.
The victory marked the perfect end to Anya Shrubsole’s professional career, with the England legend bowing out with another trophy added to the collection.
Here is Wisden’s Team of the Tournament for the 2023 women’s Hundred.
Wisden’s 2023 Women’s Hundred Team of the Tournament – the selections
Danni Wyatt – Southern Brave
295 runs at 32.77, SR: 141.44, HS: 67, 3 50s
The leading run-scorer, and the best batter for the best team in the competition. Wyatt signed off with a Player of the Final performance. She’s a lock in England’s T20 team for a reason.
Tammy Beaumont – Welsh Fire
290 runs at 41.42, SR: 153.43, HS: 118, 100, 1 50
Tammy Beaumont’s stellar campaign wasn’t quite enough to win her an England T20I recall, but it does get her a spot in our XI. Rain denied Welsh Fire the chance to fight for a spot in the final, but Beaumont had already made a statement with a record-breaking century, the highest score in the history of men’s and women’s competitions.
Bryony Smith – Trent Rockets
226 runs at 32.28, SR: 161.42, HS: 70, 2 50s
Trent Rockets finished fourth on the table, but that was through little fault of Bryony Smith. Twice named Player of the Match, she had the highest strike-rate of any player with 100 runs or more, and also chipped in with three wickets with the ball. Phoebe Litchfield, third on the run-scorers list, is one of several Northern Superchargers players unlucky not to feature.
Maia Bouchier – Southern Brave
268 runs at 38.28, SR: 135.35, HS: 63*, 1 50
Maia Bouchier only passed fifty once, but still finished fourth on the runs charts, a credit to her consistency – she only fell twice in single figures. Her form earned her a T20I recall, and she is expected to open up with Wyatt, one spot higher than she batted in The Hundred, and two spots higher than she bats in this XI.
Nat Sciver-Brunt – Trent Rockets
216 runs at 43.20, SR: 160, 1 50
Playing as a specialist batter, Nat Sciver-Brunt still more than earns her spot, and is second on that list of strike-rates that Smith tops. Her highlight was a sizzling 41-ball 81*, scoring nearly two-thirds of her side’s runs in a chase of 125 against London Spirit.
Georgia Adams – Southern Brave
16 wickets at 12.81, ER: 6.83, BBI: 4-11; 136 runs at 22.66, SR: 119.29, HS: 50*, 1 50
Before the competition, had you been told Georgia Adams would be a shoo-in for the Team of the Tournament, it would not have come as a huge shock, given her reputation as one of English cricket’s most reliable performers. However, the reason why she’s a lock might have raised an eyebrow. While she hasn’t had a poor tournament with the bat, she has been a revelation with the ball, finishing as the competition’s leading wicket-taker by a distance – no one else claimed more than 11 scalps.
Marizanne Kapp – Oval Invincibles
11 wickets at 12.54, ER: 5.94, BBI: 4-18; 119 runs at 29.40, SR: 123.52, HS: 64*, 1 50
That Oval Invincibles finished joint fourth was almost entirely down to Marizanne Kapp, who finished as their leading run-scorer and wicket-taker.
Georgia Wareham – Northern Superchargers
11 wickets at 19.81, ER: 6.70, BBI: 3-7; 80 runs at 26.66, SR: 117.64, HS: 26*
Northern Superchargers’ route to the final was a team effort, with five players taking between nine and 11 wickets, but Georgia Wareham was the pick of the bowlers. She also contributed handily with the bat at No.6, including an 11-ball 19* to seal a penultimate-ball victory over London Spirit.
Sarah Glenn – London Spirit
11 wickets at 10.81, ER: 5.95, BBI: 3-15
The best bowling average and the second best economy rate in the competition. In a struggling London Spirit team, Sarah Glenn was outstanding.
Shabnim Ismail – Welsh Fire
11 wickets at 15.00, ER: 7.07, BBI: 3-12
Shabnim Ismail provided one of the moments of the competition, taking a hat-trick with four needed off three balls to seal victory over Birmingham Phoenix.
Rhianna Southby – Southern Brave (WK)
Four catches, seven stumpings
Rhianna Southby didn’t face a ball in the competition, run out without facing in her only innings. But as a specialist keeper for Southern Brave, she excelled, effecting 11 dismissals, including three stumpings in the final.
