The AUS vs SA first T20I will be played in Durban on August 30. The match starts from 9.30 pm IST, which is 6 pm local time. All the three T20Is will be played in Durban. Last-minute injuries to Mitchell Starc and Steve Smith have ruled them out of the series as well. Smith is recovering from a tendon injury to his left wrist, while Starc is ruled out with groin soreness. Marnus Labuschagne replaces Smith in Australia’s ODI squad while Ashton Turner replaces him in the T20I squad. Spencer Johnson, who is already part of the T20I squad, replaces Starc in the Aussie ODI squad as well for the series.
Talking about South Africa, they too have a new captain in Aiden Markram in T20Is having taken over from Temba Bavuma recently. He will lead the side in the three-match series aiming to win the series at home. Dewald Brevis has earned his maiden T20I call-up in the upcoming Australia series. Wicketkeeper-batsman Matthew Breetzke has also earned his national call-up.
Heading into this T20I series, South Africa are placed fifth in the T20I rankings while Australia sixth. As far as ODI rankings are concerned, Australia are placed second while the Proteas sixth. The two teams have played 22 T20Is till date with the Aussies winning 14 while South Africa 8 matches.
Talking about the venue, Durban is one of the best batting grounds in South Africa. There is even pace, bounce and carry making it easier for batters to play shots through the line. Expectedly, the teams will prefer to chase at this venue with the score in front of them.
